Science Field Trip to Circle Beach

Grade 4 students attended a science field trip to Circle Beach this month. The purpose of this trip is to support students understanding of the balance of ecosystems and how our actions impact the world around us. Earlier this year, students learned of the importance of the endangered horseshoe crabs to food webs and also how horseshoe crab blood is used in science to ensure the safety of medicines, including the Covid vaccine. During the trip, students learned about the life cycle of horseshoe crabs and how to find them during this time when they come to shore to lay eggs.  Students also looked for tags on the crabs that monitor their populations through Project Limulus.
