Message from the Health Office

The State of Connecticut and Madison Board of Education require that students in grades five have vision, hearing, and scoliosis screenings.  The Health Office will begin vision and hearing screenings during the last week of October.  Scoliosis screenings are required only for grade five girls; this will be done in January.  A reminder will be sent before scoliosis screenings begin.

Parents/guardians will be notified if their child is to be sent home ill.  A student with a temperature of 100 degrees or greater, or who is vomiting or has diarrhea, will be sent home from school.  Individual assessments may also result in exclusion from school.  Children may return to school 24 hours after vomiting, diarrhea, or fever have subsided.

If a student has been absent as a result of a contagious disease (e.g., strep, pneumonia, bronchitis, conjunctivitis, chicken pox), serious injury, or hospitalization,  parents must report this information to the school nurse by telephone (245-6407) or by email (albertiv@madison.k12.ct.us) before the student returns to school.

Thank you, Val Alberti, RN
