Blizzard of Giving Raises Thousands of Dollars for Area Teens

Through the annual “Blizzard of Giving”, a holiday drive benefiting shoreline families – specifically kids ages 11-18 who are often largely forgotten by toy and gift drives – the Brown Intermediate and Polson Middle School communities raised over $6,200 in donations of gift cards and cash.

The drive took place in the weeks leading up to Winter Break. Blizzard organizer Brown School Nurse Valerie Alberti said she thought this year was going to be a low year for collections due to the pandemic but instead it was one of their best yet.

“We have very generous families in the Madison community who really stepped up during the pandemic,” she said. “I was overwhelmed with everyone’s kindness and generosity during these difficult times. This is what the holidays are all about - giving.”

The gift cards are distributed by Madison Youth and Family Services. Assistant Director Catherine Barden said thanks to the generosity of the MPS community, MYFS was able to assist 40 different families this year.
