Brown Grade 4 Visits Hammonasset
Grade 4 students attended a field trip to Hammonasset last week. Students and teachers alike were excited to be outside conducting field studies again with the guidance of Julie Ainsworth. During this trip, students collected data on the invasive Asian Shore Crab and Coffee Bean Snail while also learning about adaptations plants and animals have evolved in order to survive.
This trip is part of the first unit in fourth-grade science, but is tied to the larger year-long theme of “How do my actions impact the world around me?” This theme is the basis for the learning that takes place in science throughout all units. The units culminate in an interdisciplinary project that incorporates Language Arts and Social Studies as students create projects that implore a local stakeholder to take action to protect the Madison shoreline environment.
