Grade 4 Hammonasset Field Trip

October 2024

Grade 4 students recently went on the popular annual field trip to Hammonasset. Under the guidance of Julie Ainsworth, students collected data on the Coffee Bean Snail and the invasive Asian Shore Crab while also learning about adaptations plants and animals have evolved in order to survive.

This trip is part of the first unit in fourth-grade science, but is tied to the larger year-long theme of “How do my actions impact the world around me?” This theme is the basis for the learning that takes place in science throughout all units. The units culminate in an interdisciplinary project that incorporates Language Arts and Social Studies as students create projects that implore a local stakeholder to act to protect the Madison shoreline environment.
