A Reminder from the Health Office

Dear Island Avenue Parents,

As we continue to battle the flu and other illnesses, please remember that children should remain at home if they have:

  •         a fever over 100 degrees
  •         a severe cough
  •         an undiagnosed rash
  •         vomiting in the past 24 hours
  •         more than one episode of diarrhea
  •         copious yellow/green mucus discharge from the nose
  •         a severe earache, with or without fever
  •         untreated conjunctivitis
  •         an active infestation of head lice
  •         any communicable illness

If you observe any of these symptoms, please consult with your child's health care provider. Also, remember to call the Island Avenue Health Office at 203-245-6452 by 9:00am to report your child's absence. Finally, remember that the best defense is a good offense: Sensible habits such as eating a nutritious breakfast, washing hands often, and getting a good night's sleep can help your child stay healthy. For more information about flu symptoms and treatment, please check the website for the Centers for Disease Control. Hope this information is helpful!
