NEWSLETTER

As our town and region recovers from the powerful winter storm last week, I am happy to share that Eversource has reported a near full restoration of power to all of our schools and homes in time to begin the week. We look to get back into our routines tomorrow morning. That said, we are still dealing with some blocked roads so we ask for your patience as our buses make their way to pick up your child. In case you are wondering, it has been pointed out to me numerous times (too many to mention), that another coastal storm is headed for the Connecticut Shoreline for Monday night into Tuesday morning. Stay tuned...

A couple of weeks ago I updated the parent community about our comprehensive approach to school safety and security, including investments made into our buildings, protocols/drills, and our efforts in fostering the social and emotional capacities of our students, while developing meaningful relationships and connections among students and staff. You may recall my comments about student voice, and the impressive manner in which our own students intend to have their voices heard in the national debate on school safety. March 14 has been identified nationally as a day for students to make a statement. Again, I have complete confidence that our students will represent our community well and make us all very proud of their efforts. Tomorrow, I will send all members of the school community an update on the plans for March 14, particularly at our high school, where the focus of the national student conversation has been most concentrated. Our high school principal, TJ Salutari, has worked closely with over 100 students in planning a meaningful event in which the collective voices of our students can be amplified well beyond their peers across the nation. In addition to the planned program, we have included elected officials at the state level, as well has contributions from our elected officials in Congress. As always, we will honor all individual students at the high school and participation in any programs will not be mandated. Students will be given a choice to participate only if they desire. Much more to come on this matter tomorrow.
