April 26, 2019 Invasion of Innocence As a parent, if you could carve out only one evening for the purposes of helping you navigate the challenges of raising children in this era, then I would strongly encourage you to join us on Thursday May 2, 2019 at 6:30 PM at The Country School for a joint public school/private school effort toward parent education on a critical issue titled, "Invasion of Innocence". A panel of experts from a variety of professional fields will facilitate a discussion designed to promote the healthy social/emotional and sexual development of elementary through high school students in the digital age. Referred to as, "iGen", or "Generation Z", the students populating our schools and communities face challenges unlike any generation before them. They are counting on the adults in their lives to lead them through these crucial developmental years. Many adults are paralyzed by the challenges in supporting our children and young adults today. "Invasion of Innocence" is an extraordinary opportunity to discuss these challenges, as a community, and to learn from experts in the field of medicine, education, psychiatry, and law enforcement. I strongly urge you to attend. Please see the flyer below. Tri-Board School Facilities Working Group The Board of Education continues to work collaboratively with the Boards of Finance and Selectmen to determine the optimal approach to address the problem of aging and deteriorating school facilities, represented by the nearly $100 million in maintenance projects required to remediate the existing facilities. A committee of members of each of the town's three primary Boards formed last October with the charge of presenting forward-thinking options that would be fiscally reasonable, accommodate long-term enrollment trends, and consider the needs of the 21st Century learning environment, while acknowledging the town's obligation for other town facility projects. A series of public forums have been held since October and options have been narrowed. A new public forum has been scheduled for May 16 at 7:00 PM in the Brown School Auditorium to provide the latest information and to solicit substantive community feedback. This is a critical point in the development of a long-term plan and community input is most valuable. Elementary Schools For Elementary Parents: a revised calendar of the state SBAC achievement test has been posted. The assessment window has been modified and moved to May 20 - 31, 2019.
