October 4, 2019 Important October Dates October 4, 2019 Dear Ryerson Families, Our successful start has evolved into continuous joy and engagement in all classrooms! Students are making great strides in all areas of the curriculum. The energy in the classrooms is palpable as students share their thinking with peers, teachers and complete their individual work. As a staff, we look forward to sharing examples of this energy and rigorous work at our October conferences. The next two weeks are shortened weeks for students. Next week, there will be no school on Wednesday, October 9th. Students resume school on Thursday, October 10th. In addition, there is no school for students on Monday, October 14th. I wish you all a wonderful long weekend! As a reminder, our October conferences are scheduled for October 23rd and October 24th. Both of these days will be early dismissal days for students which means dismissal will be at 1:00 p.m. Please plan accordingly for your child on these shortened days. I would like to share at this time our school plans for Halloween. Students are allowed to wear a costume to school on Thursday, October 31st. On the 31st, we will all gather, in costume, in the multi-purpose room to enjoy a "Halloween Magic Show". This will be followed by a Halloween treat for students back in their classrooms. After all of these exciting spooky events take place, students will pack up their costumes, place them in their backpacks and resume their regular classroom schedule and routines. Students should wear costumes over their regular clothing. I am asking that students not bring in any accessories that may go along with their costume; such as pretend swords, wands, ropes, etc. Although these enhance a costume, these can be both distracting and unsafe in a school setting. I appreciate your support with this request. Due to our need to adhere to room capacity and our limited parking, this event will be for students only. Again, I appreciate your understanding with this request. As always, I have an open door policy. If you ever have any questions, concerns or suggestions; please don't hesitate to call, email or drop by my office. Sincerely, Kelly K. Spooner
