PJ Day for a Great Cause On December 13th wear your PJs to school! Suggested donation is $1. All donations are going towards the PJ Day for the Kids fundraiser. This is a day of awareness and support for the Care Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Connecticut Children's Medical Center held annually the second Friday in December. Now in its eighth year, the event started in a single school by a 7-year-old boy who wanted to give back to the Medical Center after his baby sister was successfully treated for cancer.
Scoliosis screenings will occur for all 5th grade girls, Tuesday January 14th and January 15th. Attention All Parents/Guardians of Current Grade 5 girls: The State of Connecticut requires that all girls in grade 5 be screened for Scoliosis. Boys are no longer screened for scoliosis in grade 5. The purpose of postural screening is to detect signs of spinal curvature at their earliest stages so that the need for treatment can be determined. The procedure for screening is simple. The school nurse will evaluate your child's back while she stands and bends forward. For this screening, girls will be seen separately and privately. Girls must remove their blouses and may wear a bathing suit top or bra, which exposes both shoulder blades. Girls may not wear a tank top as coverage. It is necessary for the entire back to be visible during the screening process. Shoes and sneakers must be removed. If your health care provider has screened your daughter after June 1, 2019, you may provide the results of this postural screening to the Health Office. It must be signed and stamped by your health care provider. CT statute (10-214) does not permit acceptance of screening by chiropractors. Documentation that your child has been screened with results from the health care provider must be received by the health office by February 28. We will be starting screening the week of Tuesday, January 14. Please contact the health office, 203-245-6407, if your daughter has been screened, your daughter will be screened by their health care provider, or if you have additional questions. Thank you. Brown's Blizzard of Giving Make this a December to Remember! Brown School is partnering with Shoreline Youth and Family services with collecting gift cards for needy families on the shoreline. Gift cards to Stop and Shop, Big Y, CVS, Amazon, Cumberland Farms, Target, Justice, Dicks Sporting Goods, Game Stop, Walmart, Visa/Mastercard and Old Navy are just a few gift cards that we're hoping for. Or, if you would rather make a cash donation towards a gift card, you may do that as well. In the spirit of community service and to promote altruism among our students, we encourage students to do chores around the house to earn contributions rather than just asking you to buy a gift card or donate money. Please send in any donations by Dec. 13.
Yearbooks This year, Brown will have its own yearbook! Sign up now to receive one in June. We are taking online orders only and the cost is $17.00. There will not be any yearbooks for sale in June, so be sure to order now. Ordering ends February 15, 2020.
