May 15, 2020 Ryerson Distance Learning Updates May 15, 2020
Good Morning Ryerson Families,
I trust everyone adjusted back to Distance Learning and completed another successful week as a family. As we conclude Week Six of Distance Learning, I would like to remind Ryerson families of the few items for the upcoming week.
The student packets for Week Seven will be available today (5/15/2020) after 10:00 a.m. These packets are located in plastic bins located in the front entrance of our building. As always, plastic gloves and sanitizer are available for you to use while picking up materials to ensure your safety. These student packets will be available all weekend for families to pick-up.
If you are dropping off Week Six student work, please place materials in the drop off bin in the correct grade level box. Student work can also be dropped off all weekend. This work will be scanned on Monday and sent electronically to your child's teacher to review and provide feedback in a timely manner.
I would ask that library books be returned to Ryerson School, as well. There remain many books out of our library and your attention to this would be greatly appreciated. There is a library book drop off bin in the front of the building for families to drop off their borrowed book.
I want to remind Kindergarten and First Grade families that if you did not pick up Week six packets that I encourage you to do so. Within these Week Six packets, the district purchased handwriting workbooks for students in Kindergarten and First Grade to use throughout the remaining weeks of distance learning and into the summer. This is a great opportunity to continue building those fine motor muscles and practice letter formation. There remain many packets in Kindergarten and First Grade that should be picked up.
Last week, it was announced that Connecticut schools would remain closed for the 2019-2020 school year. Although this is an important measure to take to ensure the safety of all within our community; it remains a sad outcome for all of us at Ryerson Elementary School. The immediate closure in March did not allow us an opportunity for closure as a community. Therefore, our staff is busy brainstorming, collaborating and creating several "safe ways" to bring closure to our school year for our students. We will share those plans with all of you in the next two weeks.
The final PTO General Meeting of this year will be held on Tuesday, June 9th at 7:00 p.m. It will be conducted through ZOOM. Information related to the agenda and the link for ZOOM for all families to access will be provided soon. The main purpose for the June meeting will be to elect the new PTO Executive Board for 2020-2021. I encourage everyone to consider joining our Ryerson Executive PTO Board. It is wonderful way to become involved in the community and provide support for this learning organization. Plus, it is a fun group of people collaborating together for the benefit of our young learners!
Finally, information regarding the Trimester III report card was communicated to all Ryerson families this week. If you have any further questions regarding this format, I encourage you to reach out to me at spoonerk@madison.k12.ct.us or at 203-245-6440.
As always, thank you for your continued partnership as we progress through Distance Learning together. I wish you all continued health and safety!
All my best,
Kelly K. Spooner
