September 11, 2020 Ryerson Updates from Mrs. Spooner September 11, 2020
Dear Ryerson Families,
Happy Friday! While it was a shortened week, it was certainly a busy week for all of us. Teachers learned how to simultaneously instruct both in person and remotely to our young learners. Parents and students had a busy week learning how to navigate Google classroom, learn remotely and create a home schedule for when to access the "live learning sessions" and how to upload the tasks assigned by teachers. While there were "bumps along the way" this week and moments of frustration, for our first week; it was a good start. Parents, students and teachers deserve high praise for all the effort, persistence and dedication put forth this week! Bravo to you all!
We appreciate all of your patience and feedback as we navigate this new way of learning together. While technical issues remain, please trust that we are actively working on resolutions and working to find the best way to stream line our process and meet your child's learning needs.
Next week is a full week. Cohort A will participate in person on Monday and Tuesday. Cohort B will participate in person on Thursday and Friday. All students will participate remotely on Wednesday. Wednesday is a full school day. Teachers will be sending out schedules to students and parents regarding times to meet "live" for small group instruction on Wednesday.
For our full distance learning families, hard copy packets filled with materials and resources that your child will need next week will be available today (Friday, 9/11/2020) after 4:00 p.m. These packets can be picked up throughout the weekend. The packets are located in the front of the building. As always, sanitizer and gloves are available to ensure everyone's safety.
A couple of staffing updates to share at this time. MPS has hired a Security Specialist to be shared between Brown Intermediate School and Ryerson Elementary School. We are thrilled to have Mr. Carl McDowell join Officer Bull with ensuring the security of the campus and the safety of our learning community. This week, Mrs. Bethany Taylor has resigned her position as Math Interventionist to begin her retirement. Our Ryerson community wishes Mrs. Taylor all the best! Mrs. Taylor has been a strong asset to our team and we were fortunate to have her talent here.
Next week, our Ryerson Virtual Back-to-School Night will be held from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Information regarding how to log into these virtual informational sessions has been shared by your child's classroom teacher. There has also been a parent guide for accessing Google Meets provided to all parents by the classroom teacher. Please review this helpful guide to know how to access both the classroom presentation and the Related Arts presentation. During the Related Arts Virtual Session, you will have the opportunity to meet all the KHR Related Arts staff!
The first Ryerson General PTO meeting of the year will be held on Tuesday, September 22nd. This is a virtual PTO meeting. It will begin at 7:00 p.m. through ZOOM (the link will be sent out soon).
Have a great weekend! If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at 203-245-6440 or at spoonerk@madison.k12.ct.us
Sincerely,
Kelly K. Spooner
