September 18, 2020 Good Afternoon!
Thank you to those who attended our first virtual Back to School night this week. We hope you enjoyed meeting the teachers and that their genuine enthusiasm for teaching your children came through clearly. We continue to be grateful for having students in class, wherever that class may be! If you were not able to join us, feel free to reach out to team leaders, related arts teachers, or Mrs. Hart and Mrs. Curran at any time this year with questions about life at Polson.
A fire drill was conducted at Polson this morning. All students and staff followed the procedures and resumed their regular schedule.
SCHOOL PICTURE DAY will be held on September 29 for Cohort A and on October 1 for Cohort B. Full remote learners may select whichever of the two days is most convenient. Please wear masks and follow social distancing protocols. Information on times and purchasing will be forthcoming.
YEARBOOKS are now on sale. ORDER your yearbook today!
PEER HELPER applications for 7th and 8th graders are in the main office for students to pick up, complete and return to the office by Tuesday, September 22.
ONLINE ETIQUETTE: We are proud of our students for the work they are doing as remote learners and are equally proud of our teachers for being in two places at once as they instruct our onsite and remote learners simultaneously. To make this learning the best it can be, we have developed guidelines for appropriate online etiquette. Effective Monday, September 21, students will be expected to follow this protocol when engaged in online learning. Thank you, parents, for reviewing the expectations at home, as well.
GOOGLE MEET PROTOCOL: To maximize the effectiveness of our lessons, we expect students to follow these guidelines when learning remotely. These are designed to increase engagement and help ensure an environment conducive to teaching and learning.
•Show your face on camera during the full instructional time.* *Why do I need to keep my camera on? Having students' faces on camera is critical for several reasons. Teachers read non-verbal cues to assess comprehension. Face-to face interactions build the relationship between student and teacher, which enhances learning. Finally, seeing each other builds community among all students, remote and onsite.
If students are unable to meet these standards for some reason, they should have a conversation with their teachers to work out possible solutions.
STUDENT EMAIL: Please remind your children to check their Madison Public Schools email at least once per day. Teachers use it often as a method of communication, and they might even find a note from Mrs. Curran or myself in there, as well!
