October 1, 2020 Ryerson Change in Model Information Dear Ryerson Families,
As we prepare for the shift to Full In-Person Learning effective Thursday, October 8th, I wanted to share information as it relates to this change in our model at Ryerson Elementary School.
Aside from the increase to the class size and slight revisions to our arrival and dismissal times to accommodate the increase of cars on campus, there will be no other changes to the systems and procedures at Ryerson. Be sure to check your child's backpack and e-notify tomorrow for the revised times for arrival and dismissal.
Students will be in their individual classrooms throughout the school day. Students will exit their classrooms through the classroom exterior door for recess (2x daily) and mask breaks throughout the day.
Students will continue to eat lunch and snack in the classroom. The Related Arts 36 days rotation will remain at this time. This reduces the number of adults interacting with your child on a weekly basis and has been a safe procedure for us to date.
The hallways will continue to be designated "one way" to reduce the passing of other students in these small areas.
The multi-purpose room, the library and the art room will remain closed at this time.
Students in the classroom will have their own individual working table or desk equipped with a desk shield. These desks will be spaced between 3 ½ to 4 feet apart. Students and teachers will continue to be required to wear face masks throughout the day. However, plenty of mask breaks will be provided throughout the day for students.
Students will continue to be provided their own materials for academics and for indoor and outdoor play. All outdoor play equipment will be sanitized after use.
Handwashing will continue to be enforced throughout the day especially upon arriving to school, before and after eating and before and after recess.
If your child will shift to being a full remote learner or continue to be educated in the full remote learning platform; google classroom will remain available, live sessions and recorded sessions from the classroom teacher will be available and hard copy packets will be provided to students on a weekly basis.
I hope this clarifies questions and concerns regarding the full in-person model vs. the full remote learning model.
