October 19, 2020 Senior Picnic
Dear members of the Class of 2021,
I want to share with you the results of the survey that closed on Friday. More than 60% of respondents expressed the desire to have a senior picnic for each cohort later this month and to have another picnic in the spring if there is an opportunity to combine cohorts and have the entire class together.
I am working with Mr. Salutari and your senior class advisors, Mrs. Earles and Mr. Hajus, to honor this request. Presently, we are planning a Senior Class Picnic/School Spirit Day for Wednesday, October 28 (Cohort A) and Thursday, October 29 (Cohort B). In the event a cohort's picnic is postponed because of weather, all events for that day will be moved to an established rain date, tentatively, Wednesday, November 5 (Cohort A ) and Thursday, November 6 (Cohort B).
These will be exciting days that require your help to be successful. We encourage you to show your school spirit by wearing your class colors on these days. As in years past Seniors will wear blue; Juniors green; Sophomores red; and Freshmen will wear yellow. If you prefer, you may also wear our school colors, gold and black. On these days each cohort will be photographed wearing blue, for the traditional class photo, which will be included in our 2021 yearbook.
On the designated Senior Picnic/Spirit Days we will follow our regular school schedule. On both days we will enjoy a new version of Wake Up Call immediately following period 2 announcements. Members of the band will be allowed to leave class shortly before the conclusion of Period 1 (approximately 8:23 a.m. – 5 minutes before the bell) and will report to their Period 2 class locations shortly after the conclusion of the Wake Up Call.
Later in the morning, your class will be excused over the PA to proceed to the gymnasium at approximately 11:45 a.m., a few minutes before the conclusion of Period 4; you will not attend Period 5 and 6 classes. When you arrive at the gym I ask that you follow the direction of your class advisors, as well as that of the yearbook photographer, our yearbook staff (Mrs. Johnson and Mr. Young) and myself as we will appropriately distance your cohort for photographs.
At the conclusion of the photo session, your group will be dismissed to our baseball field for the Class of 2021 Senior Picnic. This event will conclude at approximately 1:30 p.m. at which time seniors will be excused to go home.
I look forward to this event and hope that all of you do as well! While these days offer a welcomed break from our typical school day, to be successful, they depend upon your cooperation. Remember that all school rules apply on these days, from when you arrive in the morning through your dismissal at the conclusion of the picnic. For example, if you are wearing blue make-up or blue paint of some variety, do not wipe it on others or their belongings. At all times throughout the day, including arrival and dismissal, it is expected that you wear a mask (consider wearing a blue mask for the day!) and practice social distancing.
I encourage you to make safe and healthy decisions, so this becomes a day that you always look back upon fondly.
Sincerely,
Mr. Bodner
Bridge Update The broken HVAC unit, which impacted the use of the bridge for the past month, has been repaired. Starting this morning the bridge is reopened to seniors during their free periods. Just as at the start of the school year you must practice social distancing while sitting on the bridge - no more than four people to a table with masks on.
