Good afternoon Daniel Hand High School community,
Remote Learning Expectations It was great to have students return to the building this week. While in the remote learning model students spend a significant amount of time on computers. Remote learners are expected to log into their classroom at the start of each period and ensure their face is in full view during this important learning time. Failing to comply with either of these requirements will result in a student being marked tardy or absent. Remote learners are encouraged to dress for success for each remote school day and to work at a location, like a desk or a table, that fosters a positive learning environment. As a reminder, if a student experiences any connection issues during remote learning, please email the teacher immediately, if that is possible. If you do not get a timely response, please contact the school at (203) 245-6355 to report the technology issue. We will continue to be flexible when working with students who experience issues with technology during remote learning. Please contact the school at your convenience if there is an ongoing technology issue that requires a resolution.
Adolescent Mental Health Forum On Tuesday, December 8, 2020, we offered our first ever open Zoom forum for parents/guardians that focused on adolescent mental health during these challenging times. I would like to thank Jen Hawley, Guidance and Counseling Department Program Coordinator, Lindsey Fiondella, DHHS School Psychologist, Ben Schreiber, DHHS School Social Worker; and Jonathan Pedro, PhD, Clinical Psychologist for their time and participation while serving on this panel for this important forum. We plan to host additional forums and share resources related to this topic in the near future. The link below will give you access to a recording of the December 8th forum.
Wellness Wednesday The last "Wellness Wednesday" of 2020 is scheduled on December 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The adjusted schedule is detailed below. Due to the current hybrid learning model, Cohort A and remote students will have 30 minutes of downtime that may be used to go for a brief walk, enjoy a snack, read a book, etc. Please remember that this 30-minute timeframe is not for academic support or additional work.
