February 19, 2021 Good afternoon Daniel Hand High School community,
Wednesday, March 24, 2021 – Important Calendar Revision Please review the cohort schedule below and note the significant revision to Wednesday, March 24, 2021. On the 24th, all juniors will be invited to participate in the school-day SAT. This is a free SAT session and one that many students typically achieve their highest score. It is important to note that this assessment can only be administered in-person. Therefore, no matter one's cohort, all juniors, including those who are remote only, should plan to report to Hand on March 24th. March 24th will be a remote learning day for all freshman, sophomores, and seniors. More information about this test session and school day will be shared prior to March 24th.
End of Trimester 2 Assessment Plan Faculty and student input following the conclusion of the trimester one assessment plan indicated a need for a revision. The chart below details the revisions and should prove helpful when planning for the end of trimester two. Teachers will decide and communicate their assessment plans to students. Any assessments will fit in the all-in, hybrid, or fully remote instructional models. While in the hybrid model, all students (whether remote or in-person) will take the same assessment. The majority of end of trimester assessments will be scheduled, if necessary, for one-hour sessions. Teachers have the option to review during the first part of the class period and then administer the one-hour assessment. For most courses, with the exception of AP and UCONN ECE courses, any assessments given will count no more than 10% of the marking period grade. For AP and UCONN ECE courses, 2 hours can be used for the assessment and the grade will count up to 20% of the marking period grade. Additionally, in lieu of giving an assessment, teachers in non-AP or UCONN ECE courses can use the two hours of instructional time to wrap up PBAs, survey students, host student presentations, or continue with the curriculum. Students will be dismissed from school at 11:35 a.m. on March 8, 9, and 10, and at 11:30 a.m. on March 11. Monday, 3/8 Period 1 7:25-9:25
