Good afternoon Daniel Hand High School parents/guardians:
New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) In preparation for the upcoming Self-Reflection that Daniel Hand High School will be completing as part of the NEASC Accreditation process, all students, families, and faculty members will complete surveys designed to provide our school with important feedback on our work. We hope to learn more about what is working well for our students and identify areas for growth and improvement. Every student will have an opportunity to complete the survey during the school day. Parents/guardians will also be surveyed. Watch for an email from the school with the link to the survey. We ask that every family complete one survey. You do not need to complete multiple surveys if you have more than one student in the school. The survey is mobile-ready and can be completed on a computer, tablet, or phone.
A.M. and. P.M. Traffic Pattern As an important reminder to aide with the traffic flow and ease the congestion, student drop-off in the a.m. should be directly in front of the athletic shed. If you are dropping off your student(s), please enter our campus via the Daniel Hand driveway, drop off by the curb in front of the athletic shed, and exit the campus via the Polson driveway. Student pick-up during dismissal should be at the tiger door located by the back parking lot. Please use the Polson driveway during this time if you are taking a right onto Green Hill Road when you exit the campus. School security personnel and our School Resource Officer will be outside reminding school community members of these traffic pattern expectations.
Parking During the a.m. arrival time, school security personnel will be in the parking lot to remind seniors of the requirement to have the necessary parking permit affixed to their windshield. Effective on Tuesday, September 14 and beyond, no seniors will be allowed to park on-campus if they do not meet this requirement.
School Spirit Day School Spirit Day is scheduled on Friday, September 17, 2021. On this day, all faculty and staff are encouraged to show their school spirit by wearing our school colors, black and gold. All members of the student body are encouraged to wear their class colors. Seniors wear blue, Juniors green; Sophomores red; and Freshman yellow. If students prefer, they may also wear our school colors on Friday. Members of the Class of 2022 and their parents/guardians will receive an email from Mrs. Whitcher on Monday that will provide additional information that only pertains to seniors.

Picture Day 2021 Picture day is scheduled for Wednesday, September 15, 2021 in the DHHS gym.
School photos will be taken during the morning for students in grades 9-11. Every student will have a photo taken for the yearbook and Infinite Campus. Students will be expected to maintain their social distance and wear masks except when being photographed. Feel free to visit our website for additional information about picture orders. If you would like to order pictures online you can do so while using the password HAND21. Please note that online picture orders will be accepted through 5:00 p.m. on Sunday Sept 19, 2021.
Any senior who has not had a senior portrait taken yet will do so in school on Wednesday, September 15. Portraits will be scheduled by the yearbook advisors and communicated to seniors in advance. This photography date is for the purposes of having each student pictured in the yearbook; extended portrait sessions will not be held during the school day. Students wishing to have one should still be photographed in school on the 15th and can then contact the studio for an additional appointment. There is no fee for the in-school portrait date, and no purchase is required.
COVID-19-Reminders All school community members are required to wear a mask when in the building or on a school bus. Outside of a lunch period, mask breaks are not built into the school day. Students should request a mask break when needed. During all lunch waves, desk shields are available to any student interested in using one. I ask that all parents/guardians remind their children of the importance of wearing a mask, practicing social distancing, and cleaning their hands regularly while participating in all school activities.
Enjoy the weekend.
Stay healthy,
Mr. Salutari
