November 12, 2021 Hello Polson Families,
We've had a busy week around the building and are excited to share what's been happening:
Veterans' Day lasted two days at Polson! Yesterday, students watched a video that included a conversation with Polson alum and Madison resident Roisin Beirne who is a cadet at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. The video featured our 7th grade chorus singing the Coast Guard theme song "Semper Paratus" and our 8th grade chorus singing "The National Anthem." At 11:00 AM, Polson teacher Leah Stillman joined Taps For Veterans as she sounded "Taps" on her trumpet outside of Polson.
This morning, we had a Veteran's Day Ceremony that included a flag raising assisted by student Marcus Miedzinski and Polson custodian and Marine veteran Ron Fiorillo. Colm Webster read a poem "Honor Our Military" and Grace Ackerman read her reflection "Honoring Veterans." Thank you to Mr. Art Robbins, Mr. Chris Pagliuco, and members of the Student Council for facilitating this event.
Food Drive! The Student Council, Diversity Club, and Excel Club have joined forces to collect non-perishable food items for the Madison Food Pantry from now until November 18th. Please consider sending in some items for those in our community. Students are working toward incentives: collecting 200 items earns them Pajama Day; 400 items adds school-wide Bingo; and if we collect 700 items or more, kids will enjoy PJs, bingo, and a movie! As of this writing, we have 263 items. Thank you for any support you can give.
After Thanksgiving, we will be making an adjustment to our lunch at Polson. Currently, students eat in two locations: the main cafe and the small gym, with table shields at all tables. With the high school gymnastics program coming into the small gym in early December, we will move all students into the main cafeteria. In addition, due to the low positivity rates, we are able to remove the shields from most tables. Shields will continue to be available for students who wish to have them during lunch.
That's all for this week. As always, we continue to be proud of our Polson students and staff who make our community a pleasure to be part of.
Enjoy your weekend.
