Dear Ryerson Families,
We surpassed the 100th day of school this week on the hill! This milestone was met with hundreds of fun activities across the content areas for our students. From counting to reading activities, students enjoyed a hundred laughs and memories this week!
Just a reminder that the MPS School Renewal Referendum will be held on Tuesday, February 15th.
Our KHR community will be participating in the Unified Sports Challenge of 30 jumping jacks a day for 30 days to celebrate 30 years of partnership between Special Olympics CT and the CIAC allowing for Unified Sports in CT schools. Top schools will get a prize! Beginning this week the Unified Sports Team has been challenging all students and staff to get jumping! Jumping jacks have been incorporated into math lessons, brain breaks and mini recess! Classes have been counting and tallying their jumping jacks throughout this week. This campaign will run till the beginning of March.
Planning ahead, there will be no school on Monday, February 21st and Tuesday, February 22nd. School will reopen on Wednesday, February 23d.
"Kindness Counts on Hill" Spirit week will begin on Monday, February 14th. The plan for the week will be:
- Monday, February 14th – It's PJ Day! Wear your favorite pajamas. Kindness starts with us. Practice mindfulness and think of one thing you're thankful for. Post your thankful thoughts on the "KHR Random Acts of Kindness Wall"
- Tuesday, February 15th – Wear Green today! Brighten three friends and three staff member's day with a compliment.
- Wednesday, February 16th – Wear Blue today! Kindness is cool! So, be cool and say something kind to a family member, help clean up at home and school to show your kindness.
- Thursday, February 17th – Show your Tiger Pride! Wear Black and Gold or your Madison pride gear. Post a positive comment on the "RAK Wall" to encourage your friends and teachers on the hill.
- February 18th – Wear Red today! Complete a random act of kindness for a new friend, post a picture or write about a "random act of kindness" you did this week. Post it on the "KHR RAK Wall".
"Smart" Watches and/or "Apple Watches" are not allowed to be worn by students. If you have any questions or concerns with this, please reach out to me. In addition, students should not be bringing in personal toys, trading cards, etc. There are plenty of "play options" at school.
Effective February 23rd, desk shields in the cafeteria and in the classroom will be optional. Students may place one on their desk/table or when eating in the cafeteria; however, they will not be required.
Our "Lost & Found" corner is growing again! Please take a moment to stop by KHR and check it out. There are many hats, mittens, coats and sweatshirts on these racks located outdoors right next to the main entrance.
I wish you all a great weekend. If you should have any questions, concerns, or suggestions; feel free to contact me at 203-245-6440 or at spoonerk@madison.k12.ct.us
Sincerely,
Kelly K. Spooner
