NGSS Assessment
Good afternoon members of the Class of 2023 and their parents/guardians,
Tomorrow is the NGSS Assessment! There are many details within this message to help answer any questions you may have concerning the day's schedule and expectations. Please take a few minutes to read this message in its entirety prior to arriving at school tomorrow.
Next Generation Science Standards (N.G.S.S.) Assessment Overview
In November 2015, the Connecticut State Department of Education (C.S.D.E.) adopted the Next Generation Science Standards (N.G.S.S.). With this curriculum adoption, a state-wide assessment was put in place. Participation in this assessment is required for all students in grades 5, 8, and 11. It is important that students give their best effort for this assessment is a reflection of their science acquisition at Madison Public Schools.
Test Day Schedule
All students in grade 11 will participate in the N.G.S.S. Assessment tomorrow during periods 1 & 2, therefore all students in grade 11 will be excused from attending their period 1 & 2 classes. Following the completion of the assessment, students in grade 11 will follow their schedule as normal for periods 3 – 6.
Testing Locations
Testing locations have been posted outside of the Career Center. If you haven't already checked the list to see where you will be testing, please be sure to stop by the Career Center before the start of school tomorrow. All students in grade 11 should report directly to their testing location at 7:25 am tomorrow.
What to Bring to your Testing Location
Students should bring the following materials:
- School issued Chromebook (fully charged)
- Chromebook charger
- Calculator
- Extra batteries or a back-up calculator
- Writing utensil (pen or pencil is fine)
- Water
Teachers are unable to supply any of these materials, especially Chromebooks and calculators.
* * IMPORTANT NOTE * *
The NGSS Assessment is an online assessment given via a secure browser. Students must take this assessment via their school issued Chromebook. No personal devices are allowed.
Prohibited Devices and Aids
The CSDE prohibits accessing the following unauthorized electronic devices. Please refrain from bringing these items into your testing location.
- Cell phones or smart phones
- Smart watches or similar watches with wireless capabilities
- Cameras
- Electronic translation devices
If you must bring any of these items into your testing location, they must be turned off and stowed away for the entire duration of the assessment.
