Hello parents and guardians of our 7-3 students,
As you know from my previous email, LA teacher Crystal Procaccini is leaving Polson to pursue an opportunity in the business sector. We appreciate all that she has done, not only for Polson, but for Madison Public Schools during her tenure with us. Her last day is tomorrow, May 13.
On Monday, certified teacher Andy Roestenburg will take over the ELA classroom and work with your students through the end of the year. He is currently a building sub and, though relatively new to us, he has acclimated to the culture of Polson well, having worked with several grade 7 classes. He is certified in the UK for teaching 7-12 English and theatre, and taught there and in Australia over the last five years before moving to the states. He is currently in the process of securing his Connecticut certification.
When Mr. Roestenburg shared his philosophy of teaching, I was struck by three of his goals: developing critical thinking, having students collaborate with peers, and including 21st century capacities/real world application in student learning. These three principles align well with the MPS vision for teaching and learning, and we are glad he will include them in his work with your children these last few weeks.
Mr. Roestenburg shadowed Ms Procaccini today and, in the coming weeks, will work closely with the other grade 7 ELA teachers and K-8 ELA coordinator Pam Kendrick to effectively implement the district curriculum. He will reach out to parents next week to introduce himself. Look for an email from him at roestenburga@madison.k12.ct.us.
We are confident he will help our 7-3 ELA students end the year on a positive note. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions.
Sincerely,
Kathryn Hart
