Dear Ryerson Families,
Welcome to the 2022-2023 School Year! We are excited for the new school year to start for all of our new and returning students. We have been busy on the hill preparing for our school doors to once again open and have our students fill our classrooms and hallways for learning and fun. Our goal is to ensure a seamless and successful start for all of our Ryerson students. In order to be on the "right track" for day one, be sure to have your child secure their "Ryerson is Sweet" sticker on their shirt. This color coded sticker will ensure they find their classroom with ease on the first day! These stickers are in your child's placement envelope. Any questions, please let me know, I would be happy to answer any questions.
It has been a busy spring and summer hiring season on the hill. We have new staff joining our Ryerson Team this year. I know you all join me in welcoming the following new staff members to our school community:
- Mrs. Stephanie Hunt– Grade One Classroom Teacher
- Mrs. Brenda Schull – Grade Two Classroom Teacher
- Mrs. Carol Sprankle-Parker – Special Education Teacher
- Miss Isabelle Muller – Art Teacher
- Mrs. Kerri Kohlun – Music Teacher
Our arrival and dismissal plan for 2022-2023 will remain the same. For those new families joining us, please adhere to the following plans/procedures:
ARRIVAL Procedure
Students arriving at school by bus or by car will begin the arrival process at 8:35 am daily.
Student arrival into the building is not permitted prior to 8:35 am due to limited supervision before this time.
If you need an earlier drop-off for your child, you are encouraged to sign-up your child for the "Before School Program" through Madison Beach & Recreation. Beach & Rec begins each morning on site at 7:00 am.
All students being dropped off in the morning are to be dropped off at the lower parking lot by the flagpole. A staff member will be at the flagpole ready to greet your child and safely escort him or her across the crosswalk. There should be no cars entering the bus loading area during arrival time this year.
DISMISSAL Procedure:
Student dismissal at the end of the day will begin at 3:25 pm for both students being picked up and for students taking bus transportation home. Pick-up time for all students begins at 3:25 pm.
All families picking up their child at the end of the day will use the lower parking lot to line up and wait for their child to be delivered to their vehicle by a KHR staff member. There should be no cars entering the bus loading area during dismissal time this year.
KHR families should have their KHR Parent Pick-up tag clearly visible and hanging from their rearview mirror. Families can pick up their KHR Parent Pick-up tag at Student Orientation on Friday, August 26th. Staff will record your number, communicate your arrival and then staff will bring your child to your car. Families are asked to remain in their vehicle and wait for their child to be brought to their car. This will help us expedite this process and be as efficient as possible.
If you do not have your KHR Parent Pick-up tag, you will be asked to park your vehicle and head to the main office for assistance with your child's dismissal. You must have your KHR Parent Pick-up tag or a designated person authorized to pick up your child must have the KHR Parent Pick-up tag in order for your child to be notified and dismissed. It's important to stress that having your tag present will ensure a smoother process for you and all others during dismissal.. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding with this step in our process. This is for the safety and security of all our students.
If you are having another adult or an extended family member pick-up your child, please notify the main office (203-245-6440) and inform the office of the plan and the adult's first and last name who has permission to pick-up your child. Please let this authorized person know that they will be asked to show their valid license to a KHR staff member at dismissal for verification of your stated permission and before your child is dismissed to him or her.
There is one tag provided for each family. For families returning this year, your pick-up number will remain the same. All families will be given a car rider tag with a number unique to your family. These tags will be available to all families at Student Orientation on August 26th. If you can't make Orientation, please contact the main office and yours will be mailed to you.
At the start of every new school year, there are many forms to complete and submit to our KHR main office. All of the forms are located online.
