We are very pleased to continue to offer the Seal of Biliteracy this year, at no cost to families. The Seal of Biliteracy is a seal affixed to the high school diploma and indicated on the transcript attesting to a student's proficiency in two or more languages. It is awarded to students who complete all English requirements for graduation AND achieve intermediate proficiency in another language via a proficiency test. The proficiency tests will be administered in late September or early October
for seniors only. There will be additional opportunities later this year. Who should register to test for the Seal of Biliteracy? - Students who reach year 5 of French or Spanish, year 4 of Mandarin, or year 3 of Latin.
- Heritage speakers who may or may not be taking language courses at DHHS and who speak/listen and read/write in the target language.
- The languages offered include Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Mandarin, Portuguese, and Spanish.
- If a student speaks a language other than those listed above, a test may still be available. On the registration form, please mark "Other" and the name of the language to see if a test is available.
- SENIORS who are registered to take an AP test in a World Language in May 2023 should still register to test for the Seal of Biliteracy because AP scores will not be returned prior to graduation.
- SENIORS who took a proficiency test last year but did not meet the requirements in all skill areas should register for the test again. They will only need to re-test in the areas in which they scored below intermediate mid. The school has a record of this information and will schedule accordingly.
Students who would like to register to test for the Seal of Biliteracy should complete a registration form by Monday, September 19 using the following link (only one per student, please): |
