To the Students of DHHS,
We are writing to you today about a topic that you might be hearing about often these days – the right to vote. We, the Registrars of Voters for the town of Madison, are elected officials whose job it is to keep accurate voter registration records, and conduct free and fair elections.
TO REGISTER TO VOTE IN Connecticut YOU MUST:
- be a United States citizen.
- be a resident of a Connecticut town.
- be at least 17 years old (must turn 18 on or before election day).
- have completed confinement if previously convicted of a disenfranchising felony.
Here's what the Office of the Secretary of the State of Connecticut says about the importance of voting:
The foundation of democracy in America is our system of elections. The legitimacy of our electoral system is the bedrock upon which a government of the people, by the people and for the people is accepted and established.
Voting is a privilege that we would encourage you to embrace as you approach the legal voting age.
We would like to provide you with a couple of sources of information and hope that you will be curious enough to take a look at. Click here to read about who is eligible to register to vote.
And click here to find a voter registration form which you can fill out and mail, or bring to town hall.
The next election in Madison will be on November 8, 2022, and if you are 18 on, or before that date, you will be eligible to register up until November 1st at 4:30 p.m. And if you do, you can vote in the upcoming general election. Also, if you turn 18 between November 1st - 8th, you may register to vote up until November 7th. And lastly, if you forget to register, you can still register and vote all at once on Election Day, at the Madison Town Campus. If you are eligible, we'd love to see you there!
