Dear Ryerson Families,
Happy New Year! Students have returned and are immersed in their learning. Some students are enjoying their new discoveries during their non-fiction unit in reading while others are engrossed in writing their realistic fiction stories to share with their classmates and families, soon. It is such a treat to daily watch our young readers, writers and mathematicians become so excited about their new learning.
The next General PTO meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 23rd at 7:00 pm. We have an interesting presentation planned for a portion of this meeting. Mrs. Chin and Mrs. Maxwell will be presenting on "Productive Struggle in Mathematics". There will be grade two students at our meeting as well sharing their impressions and experiences with this approach within their math lessons. We hope you can join us to learn from our staff and students about their growth and perseverance in the area of math.
Our Ryerson Unified Sports Leadership team meets monthly to brainstorm and develop ideas that promote inclusion throughout our school community. Students have the opportunity to work together to develop ideas that revolve around kindness and acceptance. Our Unified Sports Leadership team is holding a book drive to collect gently used books to donate to Syd's Book Shack in Madison throughout the month of January. Syd's Book Shack is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds to buy or assist with the purchase of communication devices such as an iPad for children and adults who would benefit from them to help them communicate. Please consider donating any gently used books to our book drive by sending them in with your child throughout the month of January.
Our next session of Parent-Teacher conferences is scheduled for February 8th and February 9th. Both of these days are early-dismissal days for students. Dismissal will be at 1:00 pm. Classroom teachers will be sending out information regarding these conferences and how to sign up for a conference on Friday, January 20th. Please be sure to check your email and secure a time slot for these important meetings with your child's teacher.
There will be no school on Monday, January 16th. School resumes for all staff and students on Tuesday, January 17th.
Have a great long weekend. If you have any questions, concerns, and/or suggestions; please reach out to me at 203-245-6440 or email me at spoonerk@madison.k12.ct.us
Sincerely,
Kelly K. Spooner
