Dear Brown Families, As much as we appreciate the warmer January weather, a little sunshine would be nice. Unfortunately we have had to have indoor recess more than we would like, but the good news is that during indoor recess students can choose to go to the gym, to the library to read, or go to a large space we dedicate for board games. It is nice for students to get out of the classrooms and spend time with friends. We do not allow students to use computers during indoor recess. We feel strongly that they should be socializing with peers and not staring at screens. Speaking of technology… it has come to my attention that there are a number of large "group chats" in both grades using cell phones. Please take the time to monitor your child's participation if they are part of these group chats. In many cases there can be mean and hurtful comments made intentionally or unintentionally. In an effort to support keeping students safe online and with technology, the Brown PTO will be sponsoring an internet safety speaker who will present to each grade level, and also to parents at an evening event. Please hold March 16th for the evening event for parents. This speaker presented last year at Brown and Polson and was very well received. Speaking of PTO…we had a very productive Brown PTO meeting last evening. A number of different ideas were discussed to support students and staff at Brown. On March 9th, Brown will be hosting a Visiting Author for the day. Laura Schroff, the author of The Invisible Thread, will speak to each grade level as well as staff. In the coming weeks I will be sending information on how to purchase her book for your child if you choose to. Details will follow as this event and other events get closer. Have an enjoyable long weekend! Thanks, Frank |
