The Seal of Biliteracy - Spring 2023
We are very pleased to continue to offer testing for the Seal of Biliteracy this year, at no cost to families. The Seal of Biliteracy is a seal affixed to the high school diploma and indicated on the transcript attesting to a student's proficiency in two or more languages. It is awarded to students who complete all English requirements for graduation AND achieve intermediate proficiency in another language via a proficiency test. This round of proficiency tests will be administered in late March or early April.
Who should register to test for the Seal of Biliteracy?
- Grade 10-12 students who reach year 5 of French or Spanish, year 4 of
Mandarin, or year 3 of Latin.
- Grade 10-12 heritage speakers who may or may not be taking language
courses at DHHS and who speak/listen and read/write in the target
language.
- The languages offered include Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Mandarin, Portuguese, and Spanish.
- If a student speaks a language other than those listed above, a test may still be available. On the registration form, please mark "Other" and the name of the language to see if a test is available.
- SENIORS who are registered to take an AP test in a World Language in
May 2022 should register to test for the Seal of Biliteracy because AP
scores will not be returned prior to graduation.
- JUNIORS who are registered to take an AP test in a World Language in
