General Scholarships

Each must be applied to by completing the online form. Click on each scholarship to read the criteria for consideration.

1. THE VIRGINIA ALLEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

One scholarship awarded to a deserving member of the graduating class who will be pursuing a degree in elementary education at an accredited college or university.

2. THE WILLIAM E. ALLEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

One scholarship awarded to a deserving member of the graduating class who will be pursuing a career in a vocational or technical school, or in an apprentice program.

3. THE SAM ANDERSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP BY THE EXCHANGE CLUB OF MADISON

Available to a deserving member of the graduating class who is not planning on attending a four-year college, but will be pursuing a career in one of the vocational schools, technical schools, career schools, apprentice programs, etc.

4. THE ERWIN BAUER CHARITABLE TRUST SCHOLARSHIP

Available to a member of the graduating class who has been a Madison resident and has attended Daniel Hand High School for four years. He/she must have demonstrated service to others both in school and in the community. Preference is given to a student planning to enroll in a four-year accredited, post-secondary school program with a major in the environmental sciences. This includes, but is not limited to, studies in agriculture, animal husbandry, ecological studies and forestry.

5. THE JAN CARROLL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

One, one-time scholarship awarded to a graduating senior planning to pursue a degree in Nursing, Sports Medicine or Allied Health Sciences.

6. THE CONNECTICUT PHARMACY OF MADISON SCHOLARSHIP

Available to a student who is entering either a pharmacy school or nursing program, with strong community service, and a 3.0 GPA. Students must complete the statement as to why they want to be a pharmacist, nurse, etc.

7. STEVEN THOMAS COSCIA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Available to a deserving member of the graduating class who is pursuing a furthered education. Ideal candidate has shown growth while at DHHS and potential to further his/her knowledge in a certain area.

8. FREDERICK A. DeLUCA SCHOLARSHIP

Sponsored by the Subway Restaurant Chain and named for its founder who was given a one thousand dollar loan at age 17 to open a sandwich shop. This scholarship is awarded to a student who has been accepted to an accredited college, university, trade, or vocational school (2 or 4 year program), demonstrates academic achievement of 3.0 or higher, participates in extra-curricular activities, employed while attending school, and demonstrates financial need. Renewable over four years with GPA performance.

9. THE DANIEL HAND HIGH SCHOOL BOYS ICE HOCKEY ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded to a graduating senior of the Boys Varsity Ice Hockey team who demonstrates outstanding achievements in academics (GPA) and has exemplified the spirit of sportsmanship and leadership.

10. THE DANIEL HAND HIGH SCHOOL BOYS SOCCER BOOSTERS SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded to a senior member of the Daniel Hand Boys Varsity Soccer Team for their outstanding effort, achievements, and contributions to the team. The scholarship is to provide financial assistance to be used in the pursuit of continuing education.

11. THE DANIEL HAND HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2014 SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who has consistently and enthusiastically been civically engaged in the Daniel Hand High School community. This student leader has an optimistic outlook and often spearheads positive change in our school community.

12. THE DANIEL HAND HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR CLASS SCHOLARSHIP

Available to a member of the graduating class who has demonstrated service to his or her class and community.

13. THE DANIEL HAND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP

Available to two members of the graduating class who have demonstrated service to his or her school and who have been admitted to four-year college, two-year college, technical or professional school.

14. THE CHARLOTTE B. DOWD SCHOLARSHIP

Available to graduating seniors who rank in the top 1/3 of the class, who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and character traits, and have been admitted to a four-year college or university.

15. THE SALLY EHRENWERTH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded to a member of the graduating class who has successfully completed four years of a world language, has maintained an overall “B” average and will be attending a four-year college or university. Priority will be given to those majoring or continuing in the study of foreign language.

16. THE RICHARD FASANO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Available to a member of the graduating class who has been a member of the Daniel Hand High School band for a minimum of 2 years and has also participated in sports, clubs, or community service activities.

17. DR. KAYE GRIFFIN FUND SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded to a student(s) who have declared their intention to work in the field of education, most specifically for those students who will pursue careers as teachers or administrators.

18. THE GUILFORD SAVINGS BANK SCHOLARSHIP

The Guilford Savings Bank Scholarship Program was created to recognize one female and one male graduating senior at DHHS who were in the top half of their class, shows strong leadership qualities, demonstrates a genuine interest in the community through volunteer initiatives and plans on continuing their education.

19. THE RONALD B. HALL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN EDUCATION SPONSORED BY THE MADISON LIONS CLUB

Awarded to a graduating senior who has been admitted to a four-year college or university and is interested in pursuing a career in the field of education and in the estimation of the DHHS Scholarship Committee would make an outstanding educator. Renewable, provided that the student maintains academic good standing as documented by a yearly transcript, and continues in an education program.

20. DUNNITH HEENAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP SPONSORED BY THE EXCHANGE CLUB OF MADISON

Awarded to a member of the graduating class who, by example, demonstrates the qualities of integrity, sincerity and personal concern for humanity and the environment.

21. EVARTS JANSSEN SCHOLARSHIP SPONSORED BY THE EXCHANGE CLUB OF MADISON

Available to a deserving member of the graduating class who intends to pursue a career in environmental farming, agriculture or forestry.

22. THE BARBARA JURASH & ETHEL JURASH BURNETT SCHOLARSHIP

Available to a member of the class who ranks in the top 25%, has demonstrated both school and community service and has been admitted to a college or university. Preference will be given to students entering a nursing program.

23. THE JORDAN KINSCHERF MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded to a male member of the graduating class who has been admitted to a two or four-year college. Applicants preferably have participated in soccer or lacrosse at the varsity level as a player or referee, have been involved in volunteer work in the community, (preference given to the fire department), and must show academic improvement over the course of their high school career. Financial need is not a criterion for this award.

24. THE GEORGE LOVE MEMORIAL FINE ARTS SCHOLARSHIP SPONSORED BY THE MADISON LIONS CLUB

Awarded to a graduating senior who has been admitted to a 2 or 4 year college, is interested in pursuing a career in fine arts, has demonstrated an exemplary talent in the field and like George, had demonstrated a willingness to help others. Renewable, providing the student maintains academic good standing as documented by a yearly transcript, and continues in a fine arts program.

25. THE MADISON ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded to one male and one female athlete who are members of the graduating class. Recipients must hold a minimum 3.0 GPA, pursuing continuing education and must be considered to be good citizens with exemplary characters.

26. THE MADISON FOUNDATION ARTIST EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded to a high school senior, pursuing a post-secondary program in the Visual Arts whose artistic talents, work ethic and contributions to the creative climate have been an inspiration to his/her peers.

27. THE MADISON HOSE COMPANY NO. 1 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Available to a member of the graduating class who has been admitted to a two or four-year college, technical or professional school. Applicants must have been involved in some type of volunteer work in the community or social service/health field; i.e. library, fire department, hospital, etc.

28. THE MADISON POLICE UNION SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded to a member of the graduating class who is an active participant in the school and the community.

29. MADISON YOUTH SOCCER CLUB’S HANNAH LEE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded to a female member of the graduating class who has played soccer as a member of the Madison Youth Soccer Club or was a referee with the Madison Youth Soccer Club.

30. MADISON YOUTH SOCCER CLUB’S JOHN SZEKLICKI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded to a male member of the graduating class who has played soccer as a member of the Madison Youth Soccer Club or was a referee with the Madison Youth Soccer Club.

31. The DR. R. RUSSELL MARTIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN SCIENCE SPONSORED BY THE MADISON LIONS CLUB

Awarded to a graduating senior with a minimum 3.0 GPA at Daniel Hand High School and who is planning to study for a career in science at a four year college or university. Renewable, providing the student maintains academic good standing as documented by a yearly transcript, and continues in a science program.

32. THE BRIAN P. NEE MEMORIAL SPORTSMANSHIP SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded to both a male and female member of the graduating class who are conscientious students and who demonstrates good sportsmanship on and off the field. Financial need is not a criterion for this award.

33. THE WILBUR W. PARDEE SCHOLARSHIP

Available to a member of the graduating class who has been admitted to a four-year college, two-year college, technical or professional school.

34. THE GILBERT S. and GILBERT W. RAPOSO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This Scholarship is no longer available to recieve applications.

54. NEW! Daniel Hand Career & Technical Education Entrepreneur Scholarship

Awarded to: A graduating senior who has successfully completed a business course during their four years at Daniel Hand High School (with preference to seniors who were enrolled in the Entrepreneurship class), and has aspirations of majoring in business or starting their own business in the future.
