DHHS Students Attend GAINS Conference

Six students from Ms. Elisa's Brako GAINS club - chaperoned by Ms. Alina Britchi and Mme. Mary Merkle - attended the prestigious GAINS Conference at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh this past weekend (November 10-12). This annual conference is a unique opportunity for high school girls interested in STEM fields to network with women already working or doing research in related fields as well as with fellow high school students. Additionally, the conference offers hands-on workshops in areas such as emergency medicine and anatomy, astronomy and coding, race car engineering and more. Tech talks and tours on fields ranging from data analytics, typing chromosomes, studying the impact of extreme environments to university architecture inspired and engaged the attendees. Due to the incredible efforts writing grants and fundraising by the GAINS Club co-presidents, Juliana Bell and Cora Davia, nearly the entire cost of the conference for Hand students was covered. Special thanks to the Rotary Club of Madison and the Madison Foundation for their steadfast support of the GAINS Club at Daniel Hand High School.
