DHHS Wins UConn ECE Cardboard Boat Race Championship

On Friday, September 20, 2024, the ECE Physics classes, and some of the Engineering Club members, led by Mrs. Britchi, participated in the UConn ECE cardboard boat competition at Avery Point in Groton. All DHHS students who competed won awards!

Students design build the boats outside of the classroom using only cardboard and duct tape. High schools with the ECE program across the state come together to compete in different heats for a spot in the championship race—and for the coveted Championship Cardboard Boat Race trophy.

Results: The entire Daniel Hand Team won the interdisciplinary collaboration award. Will McGuire and his “Usain Boat” team brought home the championship trophy and first place in their heat. Team “ROB (Recycled Olympic [village] Bed” led by Eve Minickene won third place in their heat race. Team “Row v Wave” led by Aedan Virgulto and John Daniels won the best visual award. Mrs. Britchi also competed in the UConn ECE instructor boat race in boat “Row-mania”.
