Madison Public Schools is pleased to announce Sherry Farmer has been appointed Assistant Principal of Neck River Elementary School.

The Board of Education officially confirmed her appointment at a Special Meeting on January 14, 2025.

Mrs. Farmer has worked for Madison Public Schools since 2019 and currently serves as one of the District’s Special Education Coordinators. She received her Diploma in Educational Leadership from the University of Connecticut, her Masters in Special Education from North Carolina State University, and has over 15 years of experience in public education.

“I am both honored and excited to step into the role of Assistant Principal in a district that has been home to my family for the past twelve years,” said Farmer. “My husband, our three children, and I chose to make Madison our home because of the outstanding education system, and I am grateful for the chance to contribute to the success of the schools that have meant so much to us”.

The District reviewed over 100 applications for the position. The hiring process included multiple rounds of interviews with various stakeholders including parents, teachers, administrators and Board of Education members. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Craig Cooke said it was clear Mrs. Farmer was the best person for the job.

“Sherry Farmer has served Madison Public Schools in a variety of positions from paraprofessional to special education coordinator to interim principal,” he said. “Her drive to do what is best for students and willingness to support others in any manner needed is evident to all those who have worked with her.  We are very fortunate to have her as the first Assistant Principal at Neck River Elementary School.”

Mrs. Farmer will join current Jeffrey Elementary School principal and future Neck River Elementary School Principal Becky Frost in the new building when it opens for the 2025-2026 school year.

“I am beyond thrilled to partner with Mrs. Sherry Farmer as the administrative team tasked with opening the beautiful Neck River Elementary School,” said Frost. “A trusted colleague already, I know personally the dedication and enthusiasm Mrs. Farmer brings to each school day. The parents, teachers, and (most importantly!) the students are so very lucky that she will be in their corner. Sherry and I are excited to get planning. We look forward to serving the Madison community together and are committed to making this new school opening a fun, smooth, memorable experience for all.”

Mrs. Farmer said she is excited to help students and staff transition to the PreK-5 model next year.

“I am eager to work alongside our incredible staff, students, and families to ensure that this change strengthens our community and supports every child on their educational journey,” she said. “Together, we will continue to build a bright future for our students, and I can’t wait to be a part of that growth and success.”
