Naming the New Elementary School: Public Input Session Dec. 12

The Ad-Hoc New Elementary School Naming Committee will hold a public input session on suggested names for the new building on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 5 p.m. The public can attend the session in person at Town Campus or via Zoom.

Over 150 people weighed in on possible names for the building during the month-long suggestion period. The committee has narrowed the suggestions down to 15 proposed names. The public is now asked to give input on which of the following names it would like to see on the new building:

Noreen M. Kokoruda Elementary

Warner P. Lord Elementary

Robert Graham Hale Elementary

Taffy Bowes Elementary

Dr. Donald C. Rankin Elementary

James Madison Elementary

Alice Palmer Elementary

Shoreline Elementary

Hammonasset Elementary

Neck River Elementary

Seaside Elementary

Woodland Elementary

Meadowland Elementary

Willowside Elementary

Mountain Laurel Elementary

Following the public input session, the committee will review the feedback and then further narrow the suggestions down to 3-5 names that will be recommended to the Board of Education for its consideration.

If unable to attend the input session, members of the public can share their input on the suggested names by emailing newschoolname@madisonps.org

 About the project:

The New Prek-5 Elementary school will be built on Mungertown Road and construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2024. The new school is part of the larger Madison Schools Renewal Plan that approved by the voters in February 2022. The plan includes the construction of a new PreK-5 building, transforming Brown School into a PreK-5 school, and significant renovations at Polson including a new HVAC system. The plan will result in the closure of two of our oldest school buildings - Jeffrey and Ryerson elementary schools - as well as the Town Campus Learning Center Preschool (TCLC), contracting the district down to four buildings.
