Classroom Updates

Maggie Torrison

I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I was a young girl and I have the 3rd grade journal that states just that.  (My mom kept lots of fun things!)  I volunteered in the special education room to tutor students at my high school who needed extra assistance, during my free periods while I was a high school student myself.  I instantly knew it was for me!  I earned my Master's Degree from the University of New Hampshire in Elementary Education.  I taught Multi-age 1st and 2nd grades at Ryerson Elementary until my first child was born and I decided to stay home with him.  After raising my three children, I am now back in Madison teaching Kindergarten.  I absolutely love it!  Besides teaching I am an avid skier and during my time at home with children we went to live in Evergreen, Colorado for 5 years and skied more days each season than I ever had at Sugarbush in Vermont, where I was a ski instructor along with my father and brothers. I skied on the 4th of July! I also taught skiing at Taos Ski Valley over vacations in college.  I also love to read, write and take long walks and hikes.  Life is good!  I try to make each day of Kindergarten fun, educational and challenging.
