Jeffrey Elementary Celebrates Read Across America Dr. Seuss Week
March 6, 2020 - Jeffrey Elementary School students celebrated Read Across America week, a national initiative to motivate students to read and bring the joys of reading to all students. The week is also a celebration of beloved author Dr. Seuss with fun Dr. Seuss themed activities and spirit days for students all week long.
The week kicked off with a school wide read-a-thon as well as the premier of Jeffrey-o-poly, a schoolwide game. On Tuesday, Tish Rabe, author of The 100 Hats of the Cat in the Hat gave a presentation for all students. Students had the opportunity to purchase books to be autographed prior to her visit and discover why Rabe is known as “The Singing Author”.
On Wednesday, guest readers visited Jeffrey. Guests included school officials, elected officials, local newscasters, police officers, and local sports figures among others. Students enjoyed welcoming the guest readers into their classrooms and learning a little more about them!
On Thursday, students came to school with wacky hair or a crazy hat and Dr. Seuss movies played during lunch time for students.
On Friday, reader spies roamed the halls ‘Spying’ for students reading. Students ‘spied’ reading were entered into a drawing for prizes.
