Jeffrey Second Grade Students Teach Phonics

Second graders at Jeffrey Elementary School took over the role of teacher for a bit last month. Students invited first graders to their classrooms to help teach them phonics skills, a method of teaching people to read by correlating sounds with letters or groups of letters. All first and second grade classrooms met for about 30 minutes. Second graders taught skills to the first graders and then played a quick game.

We have just updated the English Language Arts units in each grade level to include specific work in phonetics taught within the unit itself.  This reflects the adoption of some new materials that were piloted in 2018-2019 school year. These materials and lessons are embedded within the literacy block for each grade level. We will be updating the Foundations tab in the new year to update the progressions accordingly.
