Classroom Updates

Thea Mazzola

Hi!  My name is Thea Mazzola and I teach second grade in Room 1 at Island Avenue Elementary School.  This is my tenth year teaching and I have worked with students in grades first, second and Kindergarten.

My first goal this year is to make each child feel secure and comfortable in his or her new environment.  The second goal is to establish, as a class, our classroom community.  Our room will be one where children will greet one another daily, treat classmates with respect and kindness and cooperate with one another.  We will do many activities that reinforce these goals by emphasizing our uniqueness, recognizing similarities, respecting differences and exploring the characteristics of friendship and our feelings.  My third goal is to have students become active and respectful listeners.  I hope students will keenly listen to others and engage in discussions to better their understanding of one another and the world around them.

I am looking forward to a wonderful year and having the opportunity to get to know each special and unique child in our class.  School is a safe and special place and my hope is that your child feels this comfort here at Island in Room 1.  With your input and support, we will be a team that will nurture academic and social growth in a safe, stimulating and positive environment.  I know we will have a fabulous year together!
