Neck River Elementary School serves students in grades Pre-K through 5 for families located in the southern district of Madison, Connecticut. Completing construction in Fall 2025, Neck River Elementary School replaced Jeffrey Elementary K-3 School (circa 1957), previously located on Copse Road. Neck River's completion was a large milestone in the Madison Public School Renewal initiative to create Elementary school spaces that meet current space, security, and indoor air quality standards while also providing students and teachers with modern learning environments.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up Information
Pre-K Student Arrival & Dismissal
Pre-K Parents driving children to school should use the NORTH LOT.
DO NOT USE THE MAIN ENTRANCE.
Please park in one of the bus lanes and walk your child into the building via the Preschool entrance. Parents are to say goodbye to children at the door; teachers will escort the students to class.
Drop-off time for the morning session is 9:00 AM and 12:15 PM for the afternoon session. Please do not drop off children before their session begins, as the staff may be required to be in other parts of the building.
Dismissal for the morning session begins at 11:35 AM and at 2:50 PM for the afternoon session. Again, please use the NORTH LOT. Park your car and walk to the Preschool entrance where you may wait for your child. Staff members will be at the door with the sign out sheet and we will bring the children to you.
If you are unable to pick up your child at dismissal, please make arrangements for an authorized adult to do so and notify the staff of the change. We ask that you hold your child’s hand in or near the parking lot, as drivers may have difficulty seeing an unattended child. Your child’s safety is our primary concern.

Grades K-5 Arrival

The NORTH LOT is reserved for bus use only between 8:10 AM and 8:45 PM. No cars should be in the bus area during this time.
The SOUTH parking lot will be used for car rider drop off between 8:20 AM and 8:35 AM. When dropping off, please enter the parking lot no earlier than 8:20 AM, as staff still need to access the parking spots. Cars should enter the SOUTH parking lot and complete a full loop through the lower lot and back up to the designated drop-off area near the main entrance. Once signaled by a staff member, children are to exit from the passenger side of the vehicle and proceed directly to the sidewalk. Please note that at congested times, entrances and exits to the lot might be designated as a “right-hand turn” only.
Drop off ends promptly at 8:35 AM, as staff need to report to duties in the building. Therefore, parents arriving after 8:35 AM should park their vehicle in a visitor’s spot and escort their child through the front door and to the Main Office to be signed in.
Grades K-5 Dismissal
All K-5 students are strongly encouraged to take the bus to and from school.
The NORTH LOT is reserved for bus use only between 3:05 PM and 3:30 PM. No cars should be in the bus area during this time.

ALL families will be given a car rider tag with a number unique to your family. The back of each tag will have a QR code specific to your child(ren). If you will be picking up your child(ren) at the end of the school day, you will need to have your Neck River parking tag and/or QR code available. No child will be released without their unique QR code being presented to a staff member. Please be sure to share the QR code with any other persons that will be picking up your child.
Cars will be permitted to begin queuing on campus at 3:00 PM. While I know many families will want to arrive early to beat the traffic or be at the front of the line, it is imperative that we all play our part so that our campus can maintain order and safety.
To pick up a child at the end of the school day, enter the SOUTH Parking Lot and complete a full loop through the lower lot and back up to the designated pick-up area near the main entrance. When prompted by a staff member, please present your child’s/children’s QR Code(s) to be scanned. This will alert the classroom teacher to dismiss your child to the pick-up area.
After being scanned, pull all the way forward to the next available loading station. Please stay inside your vehicle with your car rider tag clearly visible to staff. Your child will be dismissed from their classroom directly to your car. You will not need to sign them out.
Please load your child as quickly as possible and exit campus promptly. If you need to assist your child with a safety belt, please pull forward into an open parking space to do so. This will keep our line moving smoothly and limit traffic backing up onto Mungertown Road.
**If you do not have a car rider tag or QR code, you will need to park in a visitor spot and walk into the school. At the office, you will be asked for identification to verify that you are eligible to pick up the child. You must be listed as an emergency contact in order for us to release a child to you.
