Grade 6 Math Students Tackle Geometry

Grade 6 students started the year studying geometry. Students learned how to calculated the area of different polygons including triangles, rectangles, parallelograms, trapezoids and irregular polygons that could be broken into known polygons. After learning how to calculated the area of these polygons, students explored calculating surface area of prisms and pyramids. To complete the unit, students applied their learning in order to design the net of a candy box that would hold 24 Starburst candies.
