Cooperative Theater

Dates: Fridays, September 20, 2019 – January 31, 2020

Cooperative theater is for EVERYONE - we all have unique talents and abilities that we can share! You decide what role you want and you make it happen! Don’t want to be on stage? We need lots of help behind the scenes as well! Each week we will play theater games, develop a script, and plan for our performance.

Musical Theater

Dates: Mondays, October 21, 2019 – December 16, 2019
Time: 2:45 – 4:00 PM

This club is dedicated to learning and developing skills connected to musical theatre. We will focus on musical theatre dance, vocal performance, and acting. This program will also explore different genres and styles of musical theatre. All are welcome to join, even if you have never had any experience with musical theatre. Students will be able to collaborate with their peers and put together their own cabaret style numbers that will be performed at the end of the program.

2D Art

Dates: Mondays, October 21, 2019 – December 16, 2019
Time: 2:45 – 4:00 PM

Fee: $25.00

Expand your skills in 2D art! Drawings will focus on four styles of art: abstract, motif, and optical illusions. Students will also develop the skill of perspective- an art technique for creating an illusion of three-dimensions on a two-dimensional surface. Students must bring their own sketch/drawing pad.

Mock Trial

Dates: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays starting October 28, 2019 – February 28, 2020
Time: 2:45 – 4:15 PM

Fee: $75.00

The Mock Trial Team is an inter-scholastic competitive “Litigation Team.” Members of the team will compete in the State Mock Trial Competition sponsored by the Connecticut Civics First program and the Connecticut Bar Association that will take place at the end of February or beginning of March, date TBD. Students who join the team will be exposed to fundamentals of our legal system, develop public speaking skills, and actively develop critical thinking skills. In order to appropriately prepare for competition, we will meet on Monday, Wednesday and Friday after school until 4:15. Besides after school practices, students will be expected to dedicate at least two hours a week preparing materials and rehearsing parts for the competition. This is a great opportunity for students to play the parts of lawyers and witnesses and to gain first-hand experience with trial procedures and courtroom practices. The Mock Trial Team is open to all interested 6th, 7th and 8th grade students at Polson

Robotics

Are you interested in Robotics? Do you want to learn how to construct and program a robot? How about participate in a few robotics competition to showcase your programming and robot skills? Using the VEX IQ robotics platform, our goal is to build several competition ready robots and compete against other middle schools across the state at various competitions. Being a team driven club, students who are interested must be committed and attend all practices and competitions. All are welcome!

Checks should be made payable to Polson Middle School and sent with the registration form to the main office. If financial assistance is needed please contact Mrs. Hart, Principal.
