Junior Varsity

PreSeason Workouts: 

**Please make sure that your physical and Impact testing are up to date prior to workouts. Those who are not cleared will not be able to participate. **

These workouts are completely optional. We understand that families may have travel plans, and there is no penalty for missing these sessions. If you are unable to attend, you are encouraged to workout on your own - go for a jog on the beach (great for your vertical!), stream a workout, etc. We also encourage everyone to workout on their own two additional days per week. Having a strong aerobic base will help reduce soreness at the beginning of the season and will help keep you quick throughout competitions. 

We will meet on the turf of the Surf Club (Strong field) for a jog on the beach and agility training 8-9 a.m. Tuesday Aug 8, Thursday Aug 10, Tuesday Aug 15, Friday Aug 18, Tuesday Aug 22. Dress in lightweight clothes, wear sneakers, bring water. If you’d like, bring a ball and students can arrange a pick-up game at the sand courts after our workout - coaches are not allowed to comment on technique, but they can observe. And again, playing in the sand is an effective way to increase your vertical jump. 


We will break tryouts into two groups. Unfortunately we will have to make cuts in order to have a safe number of athletes in the gym during regular season practices and to be able to give playing time to all athletes. Cuts may be made after the second and/or third day of tryouts. Those who do not make the volleyball team will have the opportunity to enroll in a different fall sport or other extracurricular activity if they choose.

Please bring knee pads and water. If you have court shoes, they are recommended, but sneakers are sufficient for tryouts. Meet in the DHHS Gym.

Thursday, August 24 

  • 9th and 10th grade: 3:15-4:45
  • Parent meeting 4:45-5:15 - DHHS Gym
  • 11th and 12th grade: 5:15-6:45

Friday, August 25

  • 9th and 10th grade: 3:15-4:45
  • 11th and 12th grade: 4:45-6:15

Saturday, August 26  

*We understand that there are SATs on this day and do not want to penalize athletes. Instead of breaking up by age, we will offer two sessions - athletes may attend either. We will have a sign-up sheet to keep the numbers relatively balanced.

Freshmen - TBA - We anticipate that all teams will practice together, but this will be confirmed when a freshman coach is hired.
